History Award Winners

April is always an important meeting because we celebrate the love of history with the next generation – our local students.  The April 15 meeting of the Oviedo Historical Society is our annual awards ceremony for the students of Oviedo.  A senior student from Hagerty High School is the winner of the 2014 Robert Lawton Scholarship.  The student will be presented with a check for $500 to be used to attend a school in Florida.  Plaques will be presented to 10 fourth graders from our public and private elementary schools.  They were selected for their achievement in the study of Florida history by the 4th grade teachers in each of their schools.  Be sure to come and encourage and recognize their appreciation for history.

March  18, 2014 –  Mark your calendar & don’t miss the Oviedo Historical Society’s very special program featuring famous Folklorist, Robert Stone, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 7 PM at Memorial Hall. It should be a fascinating, enjoyable & informative experience. Funded provided by the Florida Humanities Council, The Oviedo Historical Society is excited to present “Five Centuries of Tradition” about Florida Cattle Ranching.
